2019 IIDA Ho'ohilu Award - Category: Play

We performed the interior renovation of the 5,440 sq. ft. tenant space at the Waikiki T Galleria DFS for the client, Hawaii H.I.S. Travel Corp. The existing space was to be converted from executive offices into a fully functioning bar with prep kitchen, VIP meeting room, lounge space, concierge, wedding consultation, offices, and retail. Our scope of work for the project included interior architecture, furniture and fixture selection, lighting design, graphic and logo design.

Intense consideration was placed on material quality to create the desired atmosphere. Dark textured stone tile and reclaimed wood panels bring visitors in through the narrow dim entryway. Upon entering the lounge and bar area the oak wood tones in the louvered partitions and flooring bring warmth to an expansive space. The material quality of the finishes throughout the space mingle between casual beach house and modern sophistication. The play between casual and modern is further emphasized by the environmental graphics and logo, all created in-house. A bold industrial style typeface was used to create place names and words synonymous with Hawaii. The words were graphically composed between horizontal lines in a monochromatic pallet that flows along the entryway wall from floor to ceiling.
